Where we are, where to park and what door to enter

First Universalist Church of Rochester is located at 150 Clinton Avenue South, Rochester, NY 14604.

We are across Court Street from the Xerox building, diagonally across Clinton Avenue from Bausch and Lomb and across Washington Square Park from St. Mary’s Catholic Church. We offer a Google Map & Get Directions to our church.

Be sure to see our “Where to Park” page.

What to wear

There is no dress code at our church. Wear whatever clothing makes you happy, comfortable and would not get you arrested if you were on the street. This applies to all of our church events and services, including Sunday services, memorial services and weddings, although at weddings, some people feel more comfortable and happy in dressy clothes. Dress up, if you like, or not. It’s all good.

What our services are like

Sunday Services offer an opportunity to gather in community, celebrate, center ourselves, affirm, contemplate and inspire. Music plays a large part in our services. Our Sunday services last from 60 to 75 minutes. During the school year, children and youth participate in the first portion of the service before leaving for their classrooms. Nursery care is provided to infants and toddlers for the entire service. After the service, we gather in our Clara Barton Lounge for Coffee Hour. For more detailed information, please see our worship page.

Memorial services — We hold a memorial service which reflects that person’s life. Often, there is a time during this service for anyone to stand up and share a favorite memory of the deceased.

Weddings — Each wedding service is developed by the wedding couple and the minister. As such, each wedding service is unique.

Child care

Child care for infants and toddlers is provided during Sunday services, starting 15 minutes before the service starts. Child care may be offered at other church meetings and events; watch for a mention of child care, as it may be provided only if a parent responds and requests it in advance.

We ask that at least one parent of each child stay on the premises while the child is in our care.

Sunday School – known here as Religious Education or RE

We provide a religious education program during the public school year for pre-schoolers through high school youth. This program runs concurrently with our Sunday service from September to June. Children are welcome to participate in our Religious Education (R.E.) programs even if their parents are not members of our church. See our Programs for Children page for more information about our RE program.

Who to look for

Generally speaking, we’re all glad to see you, but there are some who especially want to make sure your visit with us is a pleasant one. These people are our Minister and our Membership Committee. Please feel free to strike up a conversation.
