Weekly Drop-In Discussions
February 7: Culture of Job-Seeking II. If we view employment in a societal context, individuals contribute not only to themselves or their employers, but to society. Does having or not having a job define your worth and dignity? David Damico will facilitate a discussion of this and other questions related to unemployment and the techniques of job-seeking
February 14: World Religion. Can we learn from Islam, Buddhism and other religions outside the Jewish and Christian traditions. Phil Ebersole will facilitate a discussion of the Third Source of Unitarian Universalist tradition, “wisdom from the world’s religions which inspire us in our ethical and spiritual life.” Discussion at 9:15 a.m. only; congregational lunch at 12 noon.
February 21: Religious Left. Commentators speak of the “religious right” and “secular left,” but there’s a long history of religious support of civil rights and social reform. Phil Ebersole will facilitate a discussion, drawing on the lead article in the Winter UU World, which can be found on-line at http://www.uuworld.org/ideas/articles/151713.shtml.
February 28: Climate Change. Unchecked global warming could lead to massive droughts, flooding of coastal areas and worldwide crop failures, leading to famine and conflict. Sandy Stiles will facilitate a discussion of how the United States can take the lead in reducing greenhouse gasses. This discussion was originally scheduled Nov. 8, but postponed.
If you have a topic you’d like discussed or, better still, would like to lead a discussion, speak to Phil Ebersole or David Damico.
