Weekly Drop-In Discussions

Drop-in discussions are held each Sunday preceding church services, except during summer, on the second floor of our church. Sometimes our discussions are based on certain books or articles, but you don’t have to read anything or do any advance preparation to participate. Discussions are at 9:15 a.m and 12 noon unless otherwise indicated.  People of all viewpoints are welcome to make presentations or join in the discussions. Here is the current schedule of discussion topics.

March 7: STAR Stories of Your Life. Each of us forgets things we did that made a difference and defines us as people. Job-seeking networks define these as STAR stories, involving Situation, Task, Action and Result. Recapturing these stories helps us to define ourselves not just to potential employers but to ourselves. Come share your stories. David Damico will facilitate.

March 14: Judeo-Christian Heritage. What do we religious liberals have to learn from our Judeo-Christian heritage. Phil Ebersole will facilitate a discussion of the Four Source of Unitarian Universalist tradition, “Jewish and Christian teachings which call us to respond to God by loving our neighbors as ourselves.” Discussion at 9:15 a.m. only; program on UU history in the adult lounge at 11:45 a.m.

March 21: Health Care Premiums. We’ll share information on how health care premiums are going up, and share ideas about what to do about it. Phil Ebersole will facilitate.

March 28: Haiti’s Troubles. Phil Ebersole will present background information on the history of Haiti and its relationship to the United States, and facilitate a discussion of the earthquake relief effort and what can be done better.

If you have a topic you’d like discussed or, better still, would like to lead a discussion, speak to Phil Ebersole or David Damico.
